Young Voices

Young Voices Friday 27th January 2023

On Friday 27th January thirty five children, from Years 4, 5 and 6, set off to the World Resorts Arena, Birmingham to take part in Young Voices.
The coach set off promptly at 8.00 am and arrived in good time at Corley Services on the M6, for a food and a comfort break. After a hearty lunch and wandering around the shops, we boarded the coach for the short journey to the arena.

Upon arrival, we headed into the venue and took our seats, ready for the afternoon's rehearsal. The excitement began to build as the houseband broke into a rendition of Paul Simon's 'You Can Call Me Al', with children and adults clapping and dancing in time. Then, David Lawrence, our conductor appeared and we were on our way, rehearsing and fine tuning songs for the evening performance. Before we knew it our three hour rehearsal was over and we could relax for a while.

After eating our tea, the excitement began to build again, as the audience were allowed to take their seats and some of the children were eagerly trying to spot family and friends who'd made the journey up to Birmingham.

At 7.00pm the house lights dimmed, the children screamed, the torches sparkled and the show began. Over the next hour and three quarters we sang, danced and cheered our way through a repertoire which included songs and medleys by Spike Milligan, Nile Roger's Chic, and M People. Particular highlights were the amazing BeatBox Collective, Sing from Your Heart and of course, the dance off between the audience and Andy, the children and Urban Strides.

Before we knew it the show was over and we headed back to the coach for our journey home.

A huge thank you to Miss Murray, Mr Cooper Mrs Carter and Ruth for organising another amazing day at Young Voices, which the children will hopefully never forget!
