Case Study: Y5 - Languages

 Year 5 - French

Unit 15: Telling the time / Numbers to 60

The intention was that, by the end of the unit, the children will be able to have developed an understanding of how to ask and answer questions related to time. The children would also review their number learning from previous years and build on their fluency and knowledge of numbers to 60.

Session 1: 1 hr

Unit 15: Telling the time

  • Can say and write the numbers from 1-60

The lesson started with a Daily Review (DR) of the children’s prior learning of last term’s unit. Using the presentation the children were then reminded of their numbers to 20 with examples of correct pronunciation from a native speaker embedded in the presentation. Catch One Partner (CIP) was used to remind students of the prior knowledge of numbers. Children read out the question ‘C’est quel numero?’ and then showed their partner the number with the partner responding with the number in French. Children then applied their understanding and practised their vocabulary and spelling with a wordsearch identifying the French words to 20.
